Santa Cruz Clay is an event that revises itself every year with the mission of giving local potters and clay artists a venue to show and sell their work. The show began 10 years ago as a response to the ending of the Celebrate Santa Cruz show in downtown Santa Cruz. This left an opening for new Springtime events to take it’s place. Patterned loosely after the Association of Clay and Glass Festival in Palo Alto, this show self-selects artists working in one specific medium and thus focuses the audience to those who have a passion to see and buy great work created solely in clay.
Our show is self promoted, with the participants doing the many tasks it takes to make a successful event happen. We try to achieve a balance between the amount of functional and sculptural work that is shown each year so the rooster of artists changes just a bit, keeping it fresh. There is also a continuing effort to include one or two emerging artists in the field of clay from our local area.
New last year was a booth for local organizations, studios and artists teaching in the field of clay to distribute their information. This turned out to be a great addition as it offers the public a larger picture of the opportunities and classes available for clayophiles in our local area. This year we will add info on other visual art events happening in the month of May in the greater Santa Cruz area.
Santa Cruz Clay 2013 presents 18 booths spread out in front of the Bargetto Winery and 6 more inside the lovely courtyard. A total of 31 artists will be participating…the largest ever for our 10th Anniversary Show…..quite a jump from the 8 that started the first show in 2004!
Please join us this May to see the wide array of wonderful clay work being created here, have a glass of wine at the Bargetto tasting bar and enjoy the view of Soquel Creek from the courtyard.
See you there!
